Mersey Park School became involved with Forest School activities at Birkenhead Park and Royden Park in 2017.  Forest School is an inspirational process, that offers ALL learners regular opportunities to achieve and develop confidence and self-esteem through hands-on learning experiences, in a woodland or natural environment.

For the past two years, groups from Year 3 and 4 pupils have been lucky enough to attend a 10 week Forest School course at Birkenhead Park, led by trained rangers and funded by school. They have experienced playing, learning and enjoying the woodland classroom and participated in tree climbing, fire lighting, puppet making, den making and much more.  We have had such positive feedback from pupils and a long list of children who want to go in the future!

In 2017 and 2018, year groups have visited Royden Park to take part in activities linked to their curriculum and the Forest School approach. Activities ranged from ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ for F2; ‘Meet a Tree’ in Y1 and 2 and ‘Symmetry in Nature’ for Y5. These visits were so successful and the children all had a fabulous and informative time!
